Founder, Owner, Boxing Coach
Coach Bill Taylor is a 7th degree Black Belt in Wado Ryu karate (traditional karate) and has been training in martial arts for 48 years (2021). After earning a Black Belt in 1978, Coach Taylor became interested in competing in full contact karate. In order to improve hand techniques for kickboxing, Coach Taylor began boxing with Sheriff Fate Thomas’ boxing team in 1979. Taylor was coached by Olympic Bronze medal winner, and professional middle weight veteran Clint Jackson. Other notable pugilists training with Taylor at the gym were Jerome Coffee, Don Morgan, Billy Collins, Mike McCallum and future World Champion, Johnny Bumpas. Coach Taylor traveled to Atlanta, GA in order to train with famed trainer Asa Gordon. Asa Gordon trained World Champions Bill Wallace, Jerry Rhome, Jerry Trimble and US Champion, Richard Jackson. Asa’s gym was sometimes visited by future World Heavyweight boxing champion, and Atlanta native, Evander Holyfield. Competing in full contact karate from 1980-1988, Coach Taylor compiled a record of 24-6, with 7 kos. He attained World rankings at both bantamweight and flyweight. At one time Coach Taylor has been World ranked by all of the major kickboxing sanctioning bodies; PKA, ISKA, KICK, and WKA. Murfreesboro native, Thomas “The Undertaker” Chesterfield, also trained under Coach Taylor. Chesterfield won the ISKA United States welterweight title as well as the KICK North American welterweight title, in addition to his World ranking. Co-trainer Sam Youree won the TN Light heavyweight Title out of the Murfreesboro gym. Champion’s Corner has a rich history of producing some of the best kickboxers in the World!
Cardio Kickboxing Coach
Jennifer Taylor is a second degree black belt in Wado Ryu and brown belt in Iaido swordsmanship. She is also a multiple traditional karate tournament champion. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in education. Jennifer holds certifications in group exercise and sport yoga as well. She enjoys all types of exercise including kickboxing, running, biking, and swimming. Jennifer actively participates in marathons, local running races, and half Ironmans. She enjoys teaching others the correlation of nutrition and performance. If Coach Jen can’t get you excited about getting in shape, no one can!
